CERTIFICATES AND ACCREDITATIONS
What certificates will I receive?
Learners who successfully complete this course will receive a Discovery Learning REPs Certificate in Strength and Conditioning, and those who are already members of the Register of Exercise Professionals will gain an additional 16 REPS points to count towards their continued professional development as per the terms of membership.
Is this course recognised?
Yes, Discovery Learning’s strength and conditioning course is independently accredited by the awarding body Skills Active. This qualification will be recognised by any fitness industry employer throughout the United Kingdom, and standard REPs insurance will cover fitness professionals to train clients using the techniques taught on this course.
Strength & Conditioning Instructor
This is a two-day long course that provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of strength and conditioning training. The course starts by teaching learners how to use analysis and observation to carry out an assessment of individual client needs.
Also covered is the correct preparation in terms of warm-up and stretching routines, and the way these affect an individual’s sporting performance and injury prevention chances.
The theoretical aspects of the course examine strength and conditioning concepts and techniques such as specificity, plyometrics, speed and agility, power training and the main strength lifts.
What will I learn?
The course will provide a platform from which a fitness professional can progress onto more in-depth and comprehensive study of strength and conditioning, as well as teach the knowledge and skills required to give safe and effective training that will improve strength and performance in your clients. It will cover a number of topics including warm ups, explosive strength training, correct lifting technique and defining strength. Also covered are all major lifts including the deadlift, back squat, overhead squat, pull up and snatch.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for current level 3 personal trainers who wish to gain an understanding of techniques for training clients to improve their strength and conditioning beyond what is taught in a standard level 3 personal training course. It’s also very useful for gym instructors who want to gain a better understanding of strength and conditioning training in order to be better able to assist gym users doing heavy strength training.
What are the pre-requisites?
To be eligible for this course, learners must hold a recognised level 2 fitness qualification such as a gym instructor certificate or an exercise to music certificate. This could have been done either with Discovery Learning or with any other accredited training provider. If this was not done with Discovery, learners must provide a copy of their existing level 2 certificate as proof. Learners should also have a reasonable level of physical fitness and possess basic reading, writing and computer literacy skills.
How Long is the course?
This course lasts for two full days (9:00am to 5:00pm).
Where can I complete the course?
This specialist CPD course is currently being run only in our West London training facility.
What assessments will I complete?
You will need to do twelve to sixteen hours of pre-course reading and complete a workbook, followed by two practical teaching days. Finally there will be a short theory and practical assessment at the end of the second day.
