What certificates will I receive?
Upon completion of our level 3 Pilates teacher training course, learners will receive a REPs accredited Active IQ certificate and a Discovery Learning certificate in instructing Pilates mat work. As soon as you receive this award, you’ll have everything you’ll need to be able to teach Pilates for a living.
Is this course recognised?
Yes, absolutely. All Discovery Learning vocational training courses are accredited by independent awarding organizations. The awarding body for our Pilates teacher training course is Skills Active, who are authorized by the Sector Skills Council for Health and Fitness. This means that this Pilates instructor course will be recognized by any fitness industry employer in the UK, and if you’re a member of REPs, your REPs insurance will cover you to teach Pilates.
Pilates Instructor Courses
This part-time or full-time certificate in instructing Pilates mat work is a level 3 qualification and provides access to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs). Pilates is a form of exercise and body conditioning that can help to develop strength and conditioning, balance, flexibility and endurance. The course will teach learners all aspects of Pilates instructing and equip them to help clients perform correct Pilates mat exercises to benefit their health and fitness.

What will I Learn?
This Pilates teacher training course is designed to comprehensively develop learners into dedicated and competent Pilates instructors, enabling them to plan and deliver safe and effective Pilates mat classes to suit practitioners of any level. The course syllabus will take learners through the following units:
Unit 1 - Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
Unit 2 - Supporting clients during exercise and physical activity
Unit 3 - Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
Unit 4 - Principles of exercise, fitness and health
Unit 5 - Principles of Pilates mat work
Unit 6 - Programming Pilates mat work
Unit 7 - Instructing Pilates mat work
Who is the course for?
Anyone who is interested in Pilates or just fitness and exercise in general and who cares about helping others. This course would suit exercise to music instructors who already teach aerobics classes and want to incorporate additional posture and strength-enhancing elements into their training sessions. Applicants must be aged sixteen years or over to enrol on this Pilates teacher training course.
Are there any pre-requisites?
There are no prerequisite qualifications required to enrol on the level 3 Pilates instructor course, but you will be required to study and complete the level 2 and level 3 anatomy and physiology modules as part of this course if you have not already completed them during any previous course.
How Long is the course?
This depends on whether you choose to study on a part-time or full-time basis. The part-time option requires six weeks of home study followed by four days of attendance (09:00-17:00) over the course of two weekends, while the full-time option requires five straight days of attendance (09:00-17:00).
Where can I take the course?
This course is available at our West London and Portsmouth venues.
The Discovery Pilates teacher training course is comprised of internal and external examination papers, client interview training, coursework and practical observations. There is at least one assessment for each module with a six-part assessment schedule for module six.
Finally, there is a practical video assessment for which students film themselves demonstrating Pilates exercises as they would in a Pilates group session, and then send it to our assessment board for review.
What support will I get?
Once booked onto our Pilates instructor course, you will be granted full access to the Discovery Learning online learning environment so you can familiarise yourself with the syllabus and course content. You will also be put in contact with our student support team, who will be able to assist you with any issues outside of the classroom, and with our course tutors, who will support you with the coursework and overall learning process.
