What certificates will I receive?
Learners who successfully complete this course will receive an accredited certificate in Behaviour Change and Motivational Interviewing, along with four continued professional development (CPD) points onto their REPs membership.

This one day behaviour change and motivational interviewing course deals with the latest evidence-based approaches used by clinicians and behavioural change practitioners working in health and fitness, when they need to modify a client’s mental attitude towards their treatment and their health and fitness in general in order to help them achieve their health goals. Students will gain a strong understanding of the psychology behind behaviour change and will gain powerful motivational skills that will be extremely useful in the work they do with clients throughout their careers in health and fitness.
What will I learn from this course?
This course will equip the learner with proven psychological techniques to effectively instil powerful and lasting behavioural changes within their clients. The approaches learned on this course are equally appropriate for fitness professionals working with groups or on a one-to-one basis. The techniques learned include resolving ambivalence, developing discrepancy, rolling with resistance, supporting self-efficacy and using affirmations and reflective listening. Students will also learn how to identify and manage situations with high risk of behavioural relapse in poorly motivated clients.
Who is this course for?
The Behaviour Change and Motivational Interviewing course is highly appropriate for health and fitness professionals, such as personal trainers, who work with general and special populations towards weight management or general fitness goals. Students will learn a variety of motivational techniques to facilitate positive improvement in a client’s attitude to exercise adherence, weight reduction, alcohol and tobacco cessation and other areas.
How long is the Behaviour Change and Motivational Interviewing course?
This course lasts one full day, in addition to a small amount of pre-course reading lasting approximately two-four hours.

What support will I get?
Once enrolled on our Behaviour Change and Motivational Interviewing CPD course, you will be granted full access to Discovery Learning’s online learning environment so you can access the reading material you will be asked to study before the course day. You will also be put in contact with our student support team, who will be available to assist you with any administration or IT issues.
What are the pre-requisites?
There are no pre-requisite qualifications required to take this course, but if learners wish to receive and register the four CPD points onto their REPs membership, they must be a minimum level 2 qualified fitness professional, and obviously already be a full member of REPs.
This is a one day course. You will be asked to complete a small amount of pre-course reading lasting approximately two-four hours.
What assessments will I need to complete?
There are no assessments for this course. Learners complete the course simply by being present throughout the day in question.
