Introduction to the REP's Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Fitness Instructor Course:

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a rapidly growing sport worldwide, and its presence is now being seen in many health clubs. Combat training is becoming so popular that clubs are catering for this trend with multiple punch bags, varied martial arts classes and even boxing rings.

MMA Fitness is our new fun and dynamic training course that will help you broaden your skills as a personal trainer or group instructor. This Mixed Martial Arts Instructor course will increase your knowledge of mixed martial arts (MMA) drills, such as bag and pad work that can be used with virtually all of your clients. You will learn how to use different equipment and techniques to develop challenging, enjoyable and varied sessions.

This course will teach you how mixed-martial arts (MMA) drills can be used to develop fitness in a non-combative environment. You will also learn the correct techniques for a variety of punches, kicks and other strikes and how to link these up into combinations. Great for training in the gym or at home, you will be able to correctly and safely teach and supervise these skills in a one-to-one training or small group environment.

MMA Fitness Instructor Course Aims:

The Aim of the MMA Fitness Instructor Course is to develop an understanding of various practical MMA drills that are appropriate for improving fitness with clients in a 1-on-1 environment.

Objectives:

By the end of the course attendees will be able to:

  • Understand how mixed-martial arts (MMA) drills can be used to develop fitness in a non-combative environment.
  • Demonstrate competent techniques for the punching and elbow strikes.
  • Demonstrate competent techniques for the knee strikes and kicks.
  • Demonstrate competent techniques for basic combinations and for MMA-specific conditioning drills.
  • Safely and effectively use the pads for basic MMA fitness training
Assessments:

Practical - Competent demonstration of selected MMA exercises
Theory - Completion of assessment - 40 questions

MMA Fitness Instructor Programme Timetable:
  • 9:00 Registration, Theory - Introduction, Benefits, Safety, Equipment, Techniques/li>
  • 9:30 Practical 1 - Jab, Cross, Uppercut, Hook, basic boxing combinations
  • 10.30 Break
  • 10.45 Practical 2 - Elbows, Knees, Kicks
  • 12.30 Lunch
  • 13.15 Practical 3 - Basic Muay Thai Combinations
  • 14.30 Break
  • 14.45 Ground and Pound & Other MMA Fitness Drills
  • 15.35 MMA Fitness Training Demo and attendee practise
  • 16.55 Consolidation
  • 17.00 Course Conclusion

MMA Fitness Instructor Entry Requirements:

To qualify for REPs CPD, attendees should possess:

  • Level 2 Gym Instructor or Studio Instructor Qualification minimum
  • Valid REPs membership

This course is open to fitness enthusiasts, strength and conditioning coaches on the Register of Exercise Professionals and will be able to use the course as a CPD.

Entry Requirements:

Level 2 gym qualifications, sports coaching qualification or equivalent coaching experience. Writing and numeracy skills are also recommended for presentation of course work, however help is available if needed. Minimum age is 16.
