You will be able to register yourself with REPs at Level 2 and gain 20 REPs points.

Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Children
This YMCA Awards Children’s Exercise course (also known as Health Related Exercise for Children) will give you the skills and competencies required to deliver safe and effective exercise sessions for children aged 5 to 16 years. This Children’s Fitness Course is ideal for people wishing to work with Children in settings such as after school clubs, leisure centres, children's centres and in structured health related exercise settings for children such as children attending weight management programmes.

What will I learn on the course?
There are 6 units included in this children’s exercise course. You will learn:
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Principles of Exercise and Health
- Maintaining Health, Safety and Welfare in Fitness Environments
- Programming Safe and Effective Children's Class
- Instructing Safe and Effective Children's Class
- Supporting Your Group to Adhere to Exercise, inclusive of common child conditions such as asthma, dyspraxia and obesity
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for fitness instructors and personal fitness trainers, children's exercise leaders, youth workers, parents, teachers and teaching assistants. The course offers the latest in innovative exercise programmes and techniques that are highly appropriate for children. You will learn how to engage children into exciting and fun activities that are sustainable and balanced between cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular strength and endurance. You will also be instructed how to assess children’s fitness using appropriate and safe techniques, as well as how to spot some of the more common growth related injuries that can occur from injury, over-training or poor technique. You will also learn how to build safe and effective fitness programmes for children graded between the various age ranges, and how you measure how effective your programme has been. There will be a section on the common psychological hurdles and barriers to activity for children such as embarrassment and low self-esteem as well as the physical restrictions such as Asthma, Dyspraxia, Obesity and Exertional Breathlessness.
What are the pre-requisites to enrol onto this course?
There are no pre-requisites though a reasonable level of fitness, experience working with children, good written and communication skills are recommended.
How long is the children’s fitness course?
The course is run as a blended learning part time course consisting of 4 weeks (minimum) home learning and one full attendance weekend (Saturday & Sunday). After the attendance weekend you will plan and submit a video exam.
