This distance learning qualification is based around 240 learning hours. You will be fully supported during the learning process by one of our experienced tutors, and they will guide you throughout the course, and during the final assessment phase. The course is designed to be flexible and may take between 3 and 12 months depending upon your own personal circumstances and learning capabilities. This is the only available Fitness Management Qualification which appears on the National Qualification Framework (NQF).
Course content
This course provides an overview of how a health & fitness facility is managed from the design and technical considerations, operations and management, through to marketing and member retention.
The course comprises of three units:

Unit 1: Client retention in Health & Fitness Facilities
Identify the processes for effective customer recruitment and retention and their importance in maximising income generation within health & fitness facilities.
Apply the principles of motivation theory to effective management of individuals and the teams
Evaluate procedures and systems to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources to achieve consistent service delivery

Unit 2: Design and Technical Requirements of Health & Fitness Facilities
Explain the basic technical requirements associated with design, construction and operation of all areas of health and fitness facilities
Describe the various factors involved in the selection and maintenance of surfaces and equipment used in health & fitness facilities
Explain the general management responsibilities required under Health & Safety legislation including techniques of effective risk assessment

Unit 3: Operations and Management of Health & Fitness Facilities
Evaluate the internal and external influences on the current and future market position of the U.K’s health and fitness sector
Apply effective marketing techniques to develop services and programming opportunities to niche markets
Explain the principles of financial management and their application to budget planning, preparation and performance

Entry requirements: Candidates should have 12 months industry experience or be currently working in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Ideally you will hold a relevant level 2 qualification. Writing and numeracy skills are also required for presentation of course work. Minimum age is 18.
This course is for: This course is perfect for Level 2 and Level 3 Instructors wanting to broaden their expertise within the health & fitness industry and take on management duties. It is also appropriate for current Duty Mangers or staff in managerial positions who want to deepen their knowledge of operations management and gain a formal qualification.

- Work based assignments/projects
Assessment: Completion of three assignments approx. 2000 words each corresponding with each of the three units. The work must be submitted electronically in word processed format to the course tutor within the agreed deadline date.
Certification & Qualifications: Active IQ ISRM Fitness Management Certificate
Progression routes:
This qualification will help prepare candidates for higher level courses, and in particular the Level 4 Professional Diploma in Sport & Recreation Management. It will also enable you to register for ISRM membership.
