The UK's first Level 4 REPs accredited Obesity Qualification
Discovery Learning is proud to announce the launch of the Nation's first Level 4 Certificate in Obesity & Diabetes Management. This Level 4 obesity and diabetes management course is designed for health and wellness practitioners that are working (or planning to work) in the field of obesity management. If you are an exercise professional, this obesity course will provide you with the credentials to register as a REP's level 4 Fitness Professional - currently the highest in the UK. This Obesity Qualification was developed in conjunction with Weight Management Centre (WMC) who is on the Department of Health List of Obesity Trainers as compiled by DOM (Dieticians in Obesity Management) and is also appointed to the Dept of Health Framework of Childhood Obesity Providers. WMC are also responsible for direct delivery of obesity services on behalf of a number of Primary Care Trusts for both Children and Adults. In this way we can keep abreast of the practical and logistical aspects of delivering obesity services.
The Level 4 Obesity & Diabetes Management Qualification is awarded as an Industry Award through Sector Skills Council SkillsActive and will then progress onto the National Qualifications Framework in conjunction with an appropriate Awarding Body.
REPs Level 4 Obesity & Diabetes Management Course Eligibility:
- Related level 3 Qualification:
- Level 3 Nutrition & Weight Management or level 3 and above nutrition
- Level 3 Advanced instructor, GP (exercise) Referral Qualification or Physiotherapist
- Level 3 or above Psychology, Social or Behavioural Sciences
- Practicing Specialist Clinician such as Obesity Nurse or Dietician
Level 4 Obesity & Diabetes Management Course Structure:
Our REPs Level 4 Obesity Management Qualification is a blended learning course, meaning that you do approximately 4-6 weeks home study followed by a 2 day tutorial. You will then complete a further 6-8 weeks home study and attend a further 2 days at one of our venues.

What will I achieve by the end of the course?
- Have a thorough understanding of principals of the underpinning factors driving the obesity epidemic.
- Understand the linkages of obesity to disease and the development of the metabolic disruptions associated with excess adiposity
- Have expertise in designing weight reduction programmes for obese subjects involving physical activity, behavior modification and nutritional advice
- Be able to develop safe and effective exercise programmes for clients with multiple comorbidities
- Have the knowledge and information to set up a NICE complient obesity management programme
- Have an in-depth knowledge of the environmental, social and cultural aspects of population obesity sufficient to lead on aspects of policy and strategy development.
- Understand professional working practices and best practice relating to health and safety within the field of weight management and obesity provision
- Have the necessary skills and ability to lead one to one intensive intervention programmes or lead group meetings.
- Have the skills and knowledge to work with all classifications of overweight and obesity
- Have an in-depth knowledge of the physio-biological determinants of obesity
- Have a working knowledge of the drug therapies and their actions for obesity and the common comorbitidies
This course provides Register of Exercise Professionals’ Level 4 Status and 20 CPD point.
