Child Obesity Prevention and Intervention Certificate
This Childhood Obesity course has been developed alongside the Weight Management Centre which is a leading provider or child weight management services in the UK, appearing on the Department of Health Framework of Childhood Obesity Trainers and Deliverers.
The course content is drawn from experience gained delivering weight management services to thousands of children and families across the UK. It has been written and researched by highly experienced weight management practitioners and dietitians to provide an up to date and authoritative approach to weight and obesity management in children.
Candidates will also be provided with all of the latest information and support in terms of the practical and logistical aspects of delivering obesity and weight management services to families.
What will I learn on this course?
This highly practical course will give you the knowledge and skills necessary to develop and deliver a NICE compliant safe and effective children's weight management service by promoting healthy eating and through increasing physical activity using effective behaviour modification techniques. You will also be equipped to advise managers, governors and decision makers in the wider community on policy, planning and the social and environmental causal factors behind childhood obesity; making you a highly sought after and effective professional.
Who is this course is for?
This 2 day course is designed for anyone working with young people, or working in a role that could impact the lives of children. Community health providers, school and practice nurses, fitness professionals, teachers or those involved in planning, design or policy formulation in areas impacting children. This course has been designated a level 3 by Skills Active and therefore is most suitable for those working in the fitness industry who are already at level 3 either as a personal trainer or with other relevant level 3 qualifications. Course Content: How can you make a positive impact on children individually and collectively, and what policies and strategies are appropriate? What does the evidence indicate in terms of programme design and efficacy? What are the strategies of prevention, and what are the wider social and environmental issues that need to be challenged. How can you raise the issue of weight in children without alienating or stigmatising those who are already overweight? What dietary and physical activity approaches are appropriate and what behaviour change strategies are suitable in a family setting? What are the physical and psychological consequences for obese children and what is the evidence regarding weight in childhood tracking into adulthood.
How long is the Child Obesity Intervention and Prevention course?
The course is two full days with around 4-6 hours of pre-course reading.

There are no pre-requisites for this course but if you wish to use the REP’s points you will need to be on the Register of exercise professionals at level 3 and have the level 3 Nutrition and Weight Management qualification.
