New to the Fitness Industry

By, Andrea Hughes, Discovery Learning

I can’t deny that I was nervous starting at a training company when I’m not exactly the picture of fitness. I mean, I do workout sometimes (and that includes walking to and from bus/tube stops!) and I can probably hold my own on the gym floor, but these people are professionals.

Hearing the stories of my colleagues’ gym experiences in the morning intimidated me to say the least. 10K before work? Wow. The only Ks I do before work is Special K. But instead of making me feel guilty about not doing the same, the Discovery staff have been helping me become more fit. What other workplaces have at least five fitness trainers on hand every day to answer questions?

The staff here have been helping me with a fitness plan for beginners, which is clear now that that’s what I am (although I really hate to admit that). Getting back into the gym hasn’t been easy, especially since sometimes I end up staring at the machines like a lost puppy. My muscles have been extremely sore lately, but I’ve got great support from the Discovery Learning team of personal trainers and some good training programmes to follow too!

It’s fantastic because, although I haven’t even worked here for a month yet (I’m the reigning ‘newest member’ of Discovery), I am already becoming more fit. I think it’s true when they say it’s 90% mental because it’s just getting in the right mind state to become fit, and that’s also how the Discovery personal trainers have helped me. I’m not quite at the point where I’m ready to start teaching fitness instructor courses, but I’m well on my way to being healthier, and therefore happier! Thanks to the Discovery Learning personal trainers for helping to turn a couch potato into a gym bunny! :)
