This one day behaviour change and motivational interviewing course represents the latest evidence based approaches developed and used by clinicians and behavioural change practitioners working in the field of health and wellness. The course will develop the students understanding and practical application of behaviour change and will provide a solid platform for the individual to become a competent behaviour change practitioner. The essence of this course is to provide you with the tools to your clients can effectively achieve and maintain their chosen goals.
What will I learn from this course?
This course will equip the learner with the key skills and practices to effectively develop and deploy powerful and lasting behavioural change strategies with their clients. The approaches learned on this course are equally appropriate for those working with groups or on a one to one basis. Course Content Human behaviour and theoretical models of change: Trans-theoretical Model (TTM); Health Belief Model (HBM); Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Practical aspects will include developing and practicing use of motivational interviewing techniques including resolving ambivalence, developing discrepancy, rolling with resistance, supporting self-efficacy and using affirmations and reflective listening. We will also cover: the poorly motivated client, readiness to change and increasing the stage of change of the client. Identifying high risk situations and managing relapse as well as when it is appropriate to use which change model.
Who is this course for?
This one day course is highly appropriate for fitness professionals and wellness practitioners working with general and special populations in a weight management or general health setting. The techniques learned will help to facilitate change in a number of health related situations including exercise adherence, weight management, smoking cessation, alcohol reduction and related behaviours.
