Level 2 Fitness Instructing – Exercise to Music

The Exercise to music qualification is an entry level 2 qualification that will enable you to plan and deliver exercise classes in a group environment. If you enjoy exercising to music and motivating groups of people to get fit then this is the course for you. You will typically work in a health club studio and earn per class you teach.

What will I learn on the course?

There are 5 units included on the exercise to music instructor course: Anatomy & Physiology (postural & core stability, musculoskeletal system, heart & circulatory system) Maintaining health safety and welfare in fitness environments Programming safe and effective exercises for a range of clients Effective communication & motivation when working with clients Creating and planning an exercise to music session

Who is this course for?

This course is for people looking to enter the fitness industry with a preferred interest in teaching group exercise to music. You don’t need to have any prior qualifications as this is an entry level qualification. Once you have this qualification you can organise your own exercise routines or continue your training and go down the route of Les Mills and teach these ever-popular classes in the majority of health clubs. It is also a great qualification to have if you are thinking about pursuing Pilates, Yoga or Indoor Cycling (spin).

How long is the exercise to music course?

This course is part time only and consists of 4 weeks home learning followed by 5 days attendance spread over 3 months. You will complete 1 weekend per month with approximately 4 weeks between each weekend. The last weekend will just be 1 day where you will complete your practical exam. For your practical exam you will need to need to bring in 2 participants to take part in the assessment.

We run this course at our West London and Bournemouth academies on a part time basis.

What assessments will I need to do?

- 1 x 60 minute hour multiple choice examination (Anatomy & Physiology)

- 1 x 60 minute hour multiple choice examination (Principles of Exercise & Fitness)

- 1 x practical exam

- 4 x worksheets

What support will I get?

You will have unlimited access to the student support team either via telephone, Skype or e-mail.  This course is also supported by a fully interactive online learning package that is completely free with the course. This contains videos, interactive tutorials and lots of visual aids and learning tools to make your education enjoyable and effective. 

What certificates will I receive?

Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a Level 2 Fitness Instructing - Exercise to Music Certificate

You will also be able to register yourself at Level 2 on REPs and gain 20 REPs points.

Is this course recognised?

All Discovery Learning courses are recognised and accredited with REPs. The fitness instructing –exercise to music qualification is a Central YMCA Qualification (CYQ) and is accredited with REPs and recognised internationally.

What are the pre-requisites?

There are no pre-requisites though a reasonable level of fitness and good written and communication skills are recommended.
